which side of this equation are you on? if you don’t know, if you’ve never thought about it, chances are, you are reactionary, you respond to things versus being proactive, and you might even feel like where you are in life is a result of things that have happened to you that are outside of yourself. if you are on the effect side of the equation, you will typically have “reasons” why you don’t have or didn’t achieve.

however, if you consciously decide to be at cause in your life, you have the ability to create the life of your dreams because you take responsibility for where you are and where you are going.

one powerful way to put yourself on the cause side of the equation is to make any and all decisions out of a field of awareness. moment to moment, constantly check in with yourself and see where your mind is. the moment you “check in” and witness your mind as the thinker, another level of consciousness has come in, and whatever you do from that level of awareness will be clearer, more focused, and more compassionate.

my steps for living from awareness:

• meditate. every morning block out at least 5min where you sit in silence. ideally during this time you would choose a focus, and on the backdrop of this focus, notice thoughts come and go. this is what we call “practice.” this cultivates the ability to do the exact same thing throughout the rest of the day – the ability to “catch” yourself getting lost in thought, “catch” yourself getting distracted, and “catch” emotions and moods come over you. if you need help on meditating, let me know. it’s one of the many things we can help you with.

• any time you are presented with something that requires a decision or response, simply pause and smile to yourself. receive a text message or email that “triggers” you? pause. smile to yourself. sit with yourself for a moment and breathe with a smile. let your response come from a place of space.

• as many times as you can throughout the day, pause, smile, and breathe. everything that comes from this space will be better.
